Services
NAT has developed our personnel, capabilities and processes specifically to support aircraft modification programs. We provide Program Management, Engineering, FAA/EASA/foreign certification and Modification Parts Kit services in support of aircraft modification programs. The following is a brief overview of our capabilities employed to perform such programs:
Program Management
NAT employs five (5) program managers with experience managing large integration and modification projects. Each program supported by NAT is assigned a program manager, project engineer and certification manager. The program manager serves the role as the prime contact for our customer. NAT’s program managers have backgrounds coming from Boeing Customer Engineering, Boeing Engineering Management and Honeywell Certification Management.
Engineering
NAT employs over 40 degreed engineers with experience in aircraft electrical, structures and systems disciplines including seven (7) FAA DER’s. NAT’s design staff averages 12 years of aircraft engineering experience, the vast majority having started their careers at Boeing. NAT’s strengths include the combination of engineering design, program management and in-house FAA certification capabilities resulting in a “requirements driven engineering" approach.
FAA/EASA Certification Capabilities
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Certification Overview
NAT has a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the FAA (Seattle Aircraft Certification Office (SACO) and Seattle Manufacturing Inspection District Office (MIDO)), which establishes the processes and timelines for NAT to obtain Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) for major changes (modifications or alterations). This authority was implemented due to the number of FAA STC projects NAT had initiated with the ACO and MIDO combined with the overall expertise and experience of our in-house certification staff.
NAT’s certification staff includes two (2) Management/Administrative DERs, a Cabin Safety DER, four (4) Electrical Systems & Equipment DERs (including software) and DER authority for Structures, Mechanical Systems and Flammability.
NAT also holds the following FAA approvals:
• FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA)
• FAA Organizational Designated Airworthiness Representative (ODAR)
• FAA Repair Station (Number NX0R661Y)
European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Certification Overview
NAT holds an EASA Design Organisation Approval (DOA) (Certificate Number EASA.21J.347) which entitles NAT to perform design activities under applicable European regulations within the scope and terms of our approval. More specifically, our DOA has been granted for designing major changes to interiors, avionics, structures, and mechanical systems.
Our DOA privileges allow NAT to:
• Perform design activities under Part 21
• Obtain EASA STCs
• Classify changes to type design as “major” or “minor”
• Approve minor changes to type design.
To view NAT’s DOA approval on the EASA website refer to: http://www.easa.eu.int/doc/Certification/Org_Appro/easa_doa.pdf
NAT is currently in the process of obtaining an EASA Production Organization Approval (POA) (EASA Project Number P-EASA-21G-0017). The issuance of the POA will enable our parts kits (where the type design is approved under our DOA) to ship with EASA Form 1 (authorized release certificate).
Manufacturing Capabilities
NAT has an FAA approved engineering and Quality Control System and holds Parts Manufacturing Approval (PMA). NAT has an FAA Repair Station and NAT has received AS9100 and ISO9001 approval. NAT utilizes in-house manufacturing, final assembly and parts kitting capability and our abundant local supplier network to offer customers a wide range of manufactured products and modification parts kits for interior, systems and structural modifications.
Product Development
Flight Deck Door – Decompression Sensing Module (DSM):
NAT provides its Patented Decompression Sensing Module (DSM) for all new and retrofit cockpit doors on B747, B767 and B777 aircraft models. NAT has delivered approximately 2500 units to date.
Airbus Flight Deck Door – Decompression Sensing Door Controller (DSDC) and Keypads:
NAT supplies its patented Decompression Sensing System/Door Controller and Electronic Entry Keypad for new and retrofit Airbus cockpit doors. Retrofit installations were completed in 2002 and production installations continue on Airbus A300, A310, A318, A319, A320, A321, A330 and A340 aircraft.
